le fil presents pop sculpture: the filosophy of making

‘Pop Sculpture: The Filosophy of Making’ was a multi-disciplinary exhibition at Camberwell Space that placed pop music into the gallery. The exhibition featured striking ceramic sculptures that referenced religious iconography and icons of pop culture. It offered an unique insight into Philip’s relationship with music and faith. It showed how the process of making art and treating one’s self as a sculpture - as a site of creation - became the central philosophy that guided him towards this debut exhibition.

On the opening evening of the exhibition, Philip hosted an event with actors, dancers and performers where he would be baptised as ‘Le Fil’. The baptism began with dancers performing the prayer motifs found Philip’s earlier artwork, ‘A Manifestation of a Simple Gesture’. The ceremony combined elements of sculpture, live art, pop music, Butoh and commercial pop dance - and concluded with Philip, now officially Le Fil, and the performance of two new songs ‘Black’ and ‘Future Is Now’.

‘Pop Sculpture: The Filosophy of Making’ would mark the end of his Vanguard Award residency and the start of an exciting new chapter as Le Fil.

Welcome to my new chapter and new directions into Pop Music. It's been a natural progression of ideas and disciplines that has brought me to this point. I'm so excited to share the music with you and to bring you into my pop sculptural vision, which has been merely a future vision until now.

My name Le Fil represents the meeting point of my disciplines and ideas. Translated in French, it means the thread or line, which I interpret as the running thread that connects all my disciplines. Whilst also being a shortened version of my name, Le Fil also wordplays on gender roles i.e the masculine version of ‘la fille (the girl)’, reflecting the themes of androgyny and fluidity of gender that feature in my art.

I will still be making everything as before, now there's just more! This is really the beginning, and I am so very excited. I hope you enjoy my music and this next stage of my artistic journey. Come join me!

The Future Is Now.

Love Le Fil
