buff presents 'make or break’ (2008)

Whilst in the second year of Camberwell College of Arts, Philip Li and fourteen other ceramic students formed the collective, BUFF. They hosted a one-off Ceramics event called ‘Make or Break’ at the Village Underground in Shoreditch, London.

Combining forces and pulling their collective ideas together - ‘Make or Break’ showcased their experimentations in collaborative work within an unconventional gallery manner. Aiming to question the notion of authorship and fabrication, whilst challenging the preconceptions of ceramic art, gave them an unique stance on ceramics. Their ideas were presented in an exciting evening of installations, sculpture, interactive art and performance to an eager audience.

Sculptures and performances included 'The Drinking Ritual' performed by Philip Li, 'Vent Vault', 'The Infestation Room' and the giant monument of 'Cup'. The films included 'Boy/Girl' and 'Perf Face'.
